"The Fantastic Four: First Steps" spoiler-free review

Image
I haven't seen an MCU movie in the theaters for a very long time. I believe the last time was 2022 when "Black panther: Wakanda forever" came out. So, the newest fantastic four movie. I think it's good. Somebody described it as a space race movie and I agree. It feels like the fantastic four were a group of people who were trying multiple methods to solve the problem at hand. They fail once, and they fail again but they get back up and continue to solve the problem. I think that might be the best part of this film. Unfortunately, they don't really work together that much and the movie doesn't really show us their working. I'll get to this in the next paragraph. This film also gave me a lot of "The incredibles" vibe which is really familiar but feels good.  Let's talk about the exposition in this film and how the film develops. I think it's not done well. A lot of exposition in this film despite not really needing it. Especially a lot of ...

'Superman' (2025) Spoiler Review

Image
Yeah I saw it. It's ok. It's basically a superhero film where the superhero fights and fights and fights. I really think the fact that the momentum just kept on going was probably the only reason I was able to stick with this movie. That being said, maybe it's also a much better thing to not focus on the action so much and actually let the audience breathe. My favorite moment of the film is not an action scene, but a scene where a crucial piece of information gets revealed. LIKE STATED IN THE TITLE, THIS IS WHEN THE SPOILERS COME IN . The audience along with the citizens of Metropolis find out that Superman was sent by his parents in order to rule over Earth and have many wives. I thought this was a very interesting take on the Superman character and allowed the audience to explore the character in more depth. However, I do not think that the film shows any development of the character in response to this truth. His argument was that he never intended to make a harem (and...

Denis Villeneuve is the new Bond Director!

Image
Denis Villeneuve, the Canadian-French director of 'Dune part one', 'Dune part two', 'Prisoners', 'Arrival', and 'Blade runner 2049,' has been chosen to be the next director of the next Bond film. I'm excited about this choice. It's interesting how they didn't go with a british director since James Bond is such a british character but I'm sure that will have absolutely no effect on the quality of the film. Past James Bond directors have been Sam Mendes (Skyfall, Spectre), Cary Joji Fukunaga (No time to die), and Martin Campbell (Casino Royale).  I'm not the biggest Villeneuve fan but his films are never generic and always trying to do something new. Take 'Blade runner 2049' for example, it's not just a typical action sci-fi film like he could have made it. But he didn't. He chose to make a more calm film. I do believe he can bring his own style into the Bond movie and it could potentially be the best Bond film...

4th annual Dumpling Awards (2024 movies)

Image
(Still from 'The Brutalist') I used to do an annual awarding system every year for the best films I've seen that year. I used to do it as soon as the year ended around January or February. But I found that there were still many films that I couldn't see by that point. Therefore, recently I've changed to doing it during the summer. I have done this 3 years now and this is the 4th annual Dumpling awards that covers films of 2024 (all eligible films listed here ). I take similar categories as the Oscars and give my nominations and winners completely based off of my opinion. However, I do not follow the same set of rules as the Academy. If you would like to see the rules set for this version of the Oscars, please take a look at this article . The categories will be written in big letters and underlined. The nominees will be listed out in bullet points. Then the Winner will be in bold and an asterisk(*) will be next to them. Best Ensemble Anora* Challengers His Three Dau...

Rules for Dumpling Awards

Rules: I am the leader. I get to choose and break the rules as I please. The rules are only here to guide me to stay consistent. There may be N/A for the shortlist/nomination category if I don’t believe there are enough movies that deserve being shortlisted in that category I haven’t watched enough movies fit for that category If there is N/A for the nominations, I may not fill out the winners There should be 5-10 movies in the nominations for best picture There should be 3-5 movies in the nominations for every other category There should only be one winner. No one is allowed to edit the nominations and winner after the due date. The movies eligible for the annual Dumpling awards are the movies that I consider a movie from that year. Not theatrical release date or festival premiere release date. Me.  The actors/actresses eligible for either supporting or leading is up to me. Not what the studios have assigned them The original song/original score eligible for their award is c...
