'One Battle After Another' trailer is finally out!

Image
The trailer for 'One Battle After Another' directed Paul Thomas Anderson is finally out. I was so sure that it was going to come out today so I've been waiting all day. Refreshing that Youtube page.  The trailer looks good. I love the piano note just repeating itself. Sounds like Jonny Greenwood might have made another great score.  The shot above is probably my favorite shot of the trailer. I heard that Sean Penn's performance deserves an Oscar and I'm very excited. We also have an official description from Warner Bros. about the film. I've pasted that below.  Now that I've watched 'Mickey 17', this might be my most anticipated film of 2025. Can't wait for September. Official synopsis: "When their evil enemy resurfaces after 16 years, a group of ex-revolutionaries reunites to rescue one of their own's daughter."

'Adolescence' - long takes and brilliant acting

Image
Finished 'Adolescence' yesterday. Highly recommend to anyone who has 4 hours to spare. There's a lot of dialogue in this so if that's not your thing maybe this is not for you. However, the dialogue makes the drama quite engrossing and the acting is phenomenal. All the actors are killing it in this show: watch out for the 15 year old actor Owen Cooper in the third episode. He's probably going to get an Emmy nomination. All episodes are shot as one long take. I thought there were invisible cuts in the middle just like 'Birdman or the unexpected virtue of ignorance' or '1917' but apparently they shot it literally for one hour with the camera moving the entire time. Adolescence: 4/5

'Mickey 17' short review

Bong Joon Ho has never made a bad film... until now. Very exciting film with extremely shallow understanding of its themes. A satire is allowed to be over the top and clear about its message but that doesn't excuse it for being lazy. Where is the intellect that "The host" had? Where is the emotion that "Okja" had? Where are the thrills that "Snowpiercer" had? "Okja" also lacked thematic depth but at least that film made up for it through the emotional core of the film. What makes "Mickey 17" so special? Nothing, unfortunately. I waited over an year for this and it's really disappointing to see that my favorite director make a very mediocre film. To get to the positives, Robert Pattinson is good, creative story (albeit it is based on a book), fun moments, VFX. Wow the VFX work is great. The visuals are awesome but where is Bong's perfect directing that he reached with "Memories of murder?" I know I did a lot of com...

WELCOME to the BLOG

Greetings, everyone! I created this blog so that I can talk about films and possibly other people can join in on film discussions. I will not be posting frequently due to having to prioritize other things in my life but I will try to post as frequently as possible.  I used to write about films separately in a personal google docs that wasn't shared with anyone but I think I would like to share my thought with the world which is why I started this blog. I also used to have a youtube channel where I filmed and edited videos where I analyzed, reviewed films but that took up a lot of my time because of the editing process. I'm hoping that this blog would provide me with an easy and fast way to share my thoughts.  Thanks. Letterboxd account: https://boxd.it/3cAQT
